I have an issue with my Win XP install. I can run the install up until the first part of the install is complete and the VM reboots. If I eject the CD the system comes up with "no boot device available" message so it doesn't appear to be able to find the boot record on my virtual hard disk.

I have set the CD/DVD-ROM 1 device to be /dev/scd0 and map to IDE 0:0. The Hard Disk 1 is mapped to IDE 0:1. This allows me to boot from the CD to install the OS. The boot sequence is CD-ROM, Hard Disk, Floppy.

Not sure what to try next or if I'm missing something obvious?

Try having it boot from the hard disk when it reboots. That way it'll read the install already set up on the hard disk and continue installing.
