Hi all, First of all, I'd like to say I think Parallels is a great product. It's pretty much the reason why I've switched to buying a MacBook. So, ya, thats really my starting point with this thread. Bear in mind, I've never had any experience with Macs or OSX. Its my second day playing around. Anyways, my question is, what kind of performance should I expect with a MacBook 2.2 ghz with 1 gb ram? I tried installing Kubuntu 7.10 first of all, and it didn't work what so ever. The live cd would boot and then eventually end up at a blank screen. So I tried Kubuntu 7.04 (given 400 mb ram) and that worked fine, however it was really slow. Installing took well over an hour. Fortunately, upon rebooting, it was a little faster and once I installed the Parallels tools, that gave it a little boost. However, I still feel like it is a bit sticky. I can accept that the guest os is going to be a little slower, however, when running Kubuntu, it also makes OSX a bit slower and less responsive. Is this normal? Because I was watching a few youtube videos before and, to me, their systems (MacBooks as well) looked quite responsive, which is why I was surprised when I didnt have the same experience. Am I doing something wrong, or missing something vital (like I said, I installed parallel tools) or might there be something wrong with my MacBook? What are others experiences?
You need more ram. 1 GB of ram for your whole Macbook machine? You should upgrade to at least 2 GB if possible. That way you can allocate more ram to the virtual machine and also since OS X will have more memory it won't have to use VM so much. OS X runs better when it has more than 512 mb all to itself.
