I'm having a weird issue with networking on beta 2 but I'm not sure if it's caused by Parallels or VMWare: I'll describe my setup. I've got a Win2K3 parallels image and 4 Win2K3 VMWare Fusion images (which I can't convert as they're server images that are updated regularly outside of my control) running on my Mac Pro (5GB ram) The first bit of this post is a description of my setup because it could be relevant even though it's about VMWare not Fusion: Because of a limitation in VMWare (can't communicate to the VMs across a network card they're bridging to directly from the host because the Mac Pro network cards support Hardware checksum offload which has this known issue in Beta Fusion), I've had to connect my VMWare machines to one network card with the other one being setup as the default and a static route (plus a second IP Address on the default card) setup between the two cards. Plugging them both into a Gigabit switch allows communication between the host and the fusion vms. Now to the problem: Unfortunately, with this setup, Parallels won't work in bridged mode (to either card), and seems to lock out the network card it's bridged to (i.e. communication from the host to anywhere across the network card is blocked). I can set it to shared mode and everything works fine but the problem with that is that I need to communicate with my parallels image from the VMWare ones and that doesn't work (presumably because of the NAT used for shared networking). So, I guess it all boils down to one of two problems / solutions: 1) Is there a known issue with bridged networking in Parallels Beta 2? It would be fantastic if someone can try it out on a less complicated setup on a Mac Pro 2) Is there any way of creating a port forwarding rule to drill through the Parallels NAT config? It's entirely possible that the problems are caused by Fusion, but if there's a solution / workaround I can implement for Parallels It'd be fantasic: At the moment the only option I can think of is to move my Parallels image across to VMWare and I don't want to do that as I prefer Parallels and really want to keep it as my main VM solution (the VM on parallels is my main windows development kit) Sorry for the length of the post!
