    Hi all,

Well, I'm very frustrated. I have a retina MBP (15") and have Windows 8 installed via Parallels. Life has been great...that is until I decided to install the Windows 8.1 beta. Yes, I realize it's an unsupported beta, so let's just get that out of the way upfront. Risky, etc. I get it.

Anyhow, immediately after upgrading to 8.1, my text was tiny (running at full 2880x1800 - impossible to use). I tried to change the resolution in Windows; all were horribly blurry. I checked Parallels settings and tried all....didn't fix and still blurry.

I contacted support via twitter and they advised to reinstall Parallels Tools. Did that, did nothing. Then, I saw at the end of the "reinstall Parallels Tools" video that you can manually uninstall PT and reinstall them. I did that.

On a reboot, my Windows 8 will NOT start up. It boots to a blue "Automatic Repair" screen and will not "repair" itself. Just keep rebooting into it, hoping it will boot. Nope.

Moral of the story is: I have lost my entire Win8 partition. My only option to fix this is to do a full Windows refresh, which of course will erase everything on my Win8 partition.

So, whatever you do, don't install 8.1 unless you want microscopic text. If you try to reinstall Parallels Tools after uninstalling them, your Win8 partition is instantly toast.

Thanks for the suggestion, Parallels support! Now my Windows partition is hosed.

EDIT: I did a system restore to the point where I uninstalled Parallels Tools. Works fine now. WHEW.

So, stay away from 8.1 until Parallels makes it cooperate with the VM. My text is still microscopic, but at least my data is there and Windows 8.1 is working again.
