Just a quick "heads-up" to those of you who were prompted to update, 11.0.2 (31348) and have Windows 8 installed as your guest OS, and have Avira Free Antivirus installed on it.

I went through the update half an hour ago, as I've got Parallels set to automatically notify me when new updates are available. I opted in, Parallels automatically suspended my Win8 environment, updated the software, and re-launched - automatically resuming my suspended Windows 8 VM. Immediately, Parallels Tools started installing, Avira stopped something from installing. (I don't recall what, but it popped up the usual big, scary alerts, saying something nefarious is being blocked from installing.) I went into Avira, began putzing around trying to see what was blocked - Avira is set to display a quick alert, then go away - and didn't realize that the Parallels Tools "countdown to restart" timer ran out. Windows then began the reboot process, got the new Windows 8 version of the BSOD, at which point the guest system restarted.

I was prompted with an error saying Windows couldn't be recovered, and was forced to restore from a Restore Point. MAJOR bonus points to the Parallels team here - A Restore Point was created when Parallels tools was installed. I'm not sure if this is by design, or how I have Windows configured, but if it's you, Parallels team, THIS SAVED MY BACON!

Upon Windows coming back up to pre-Parallels Tools installations, the Parallels Tools installation began to run, automatically again, with no "pause" or "cancel" button to stop it. (I wanted to disable Avira prior to trying it again, so it would install completely.) I ended up right-clicking the Parallels Tools icon in the taskbar and selecting "close window." I then turned off Avira's "Real-Time Protection," then re-ran the Parallels Tools installer - which was mounted at D:\Autorun.exe - and rebooted at the prompt.

All is well, now, but wanted to put the word out that it looks like Avira Free Antivirus + Parallels Tools don't play nicely. I haven't run into this problem in the past, but have only recently begun to use Avira on my guest Windows 8 system.
