VM Compactor is cool, but what about the other way?

VM Compactor -- Nice tool, but what about the reverse?

I'm desperate to increase the size of my virtual drive for MaxOSX, but no tool as yet.

I'm loathed to rebuild my Windows installation so hopefully news is on the ware re: increasing the disk size.

Keep up the good work chaps - Totally loving Workstation for the Mac (and thanks for the discount when I pre-ordered :p )

daj: You could always add a second vHDD to your VM and then format it and use it from within the Windows session. Does that help?

I do agree, however, a way of increasing the HDD size would be useful. But you need to be aware that even with dynamic disks of Windows you cannot extend the system boot partition, so your options are a) re-install or b) do a ghost of the system then create a new vHDD and re-ghost it back.

Be careful not to confuse limitations of the VM software solution with the limitations of Windows.

I've created second drive for now, but a single one would be much better.

Also, although windows can not resize the partition you can use other tools to do so (including the boot partition) so I am sure it is possible, and hopefully available soon on VM

I strongly second DAJ's request for the disk tool to expand our existing VM HD's. Creating a second disk is a bit of a kludge. Wonder how long before this tool becomes available?

You're right daj, something like partition magic should do it but I've never tried and it is an app you have to pay for :(

    Cheers.

I've got it, so I might give it a try tonight and report back -- or I may be in tears and picking up the pieces! lol

Good luck! Report back how you get on.

Which leads me to another interesting question...I'll start a new thread as it is only indirectly related...backups of VMs

    Cheers,

Worked great for me. I went from a 4GB image w/ 350 MB free space and after running the compactor I have 2.18 GB of free space. Solved all my issues for space.

    :)
