I'm having an issue with using Parallels 3.0 with Vista via Boot Camp. I have Vista Business installed in a Boot Camp created partition. Apple drivers from Boot Camp 1.3 have been installed, and Vista is working nicely when directly booting into Vista and is using a native GeForce 7300 driver for the stock Mac Pro video driver. This configuration provides for Aero support within Vista.

I installed Parallels 3.0, and created a new Virtual machine to use the Boot Camp partition. I enabled DirectX support for the virtual machine, and then started up the VM. Parallels went through its configuration and Parallels tools installation on Boot Camp without issues (it did take a long time and had to be patient, some user feedback would be good during this process). Once the configuration was complete, Vista completed its booting fine. I logged in and had reasonable performance from Parallels. I was disappointed that the DirectX support was not sufficient to enable the Aero interface, but hopefully that will come about in the near future.

My problem is when I reboot the Mac directly into Boot Camp after Parallels has used the Boot Camp partition. The video driver in Vista is now a generic VGA driver. It cannot drive my monitor to 1680x1050 and has no widescreen resolutions available at all, causing everything to be distorted. Since it is a generic video driver, there is no Aero support, nor any other advance video system support.

I can update the video driver back to a GeForce 7300, and regain proper use of the native Vista. but of course if I go back to Parallels, I have the same problem all over again.

Anyone else having video issues in Boot Camp after using Parallels?

My config is Mac Pro 3.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM (1 GB allocated to Vista in Parallels), GeForce 7300GT video card.
