Just a general question. I have read the info with Parallels, but might have missed out on a vital point. When in Parallels, can I merely get out and reduce the installed platform to the dock, and then call it up when needed, rather than shut it down and power the VM up again when I need Windows? if this is the way to do it, do I risk some performance drop when I use OS X??
You can just minimize the virtual machines without problem as long as you have enough system resources, especially RAM.
