I have installed Win XP Profesional in a partition using Boot Camp and it works fine. In boot camp. Now I want to use Parallel and use the Win XP that I have already installed. I have to since I have lost the XP disk that I used originally. A local tech guy tells me that Parallel will work with Win XP HOME from Boot Camp but not XP PRO. Is this so? Is there a version of Parallel where this is possible? When I tried to install it the last time I nearly lost the existing partition.
I'd be grateful for any help on this.

Parallels works with both XP Home and XP Pro just fine, In order to use Bootcamp you should have Parallels Build 3188 for best results.

It sounds like your tech guy is trying to sell you an extra license.
