Hi, I own a lightscribe burner (Samsung). Unfortunately this one does not work with the native Disclabel software on the Mac. However it works fine with a standalone PC under Nero. I tried to setup the Software in Parallels VM. The burner is recognized. However, Nero tells me that there isn't a lightscribe compatible device attached. I would like to get rid of my last standalone-PC-based application. Does someone have an idea? Or is this not supported at all? Ralf.
I would think that it's because the VM sees a generic CDROM type device. I'm not in front of my installl right now but i'm guessing thsing that PD doesn't pass through the actual inquiry string for the burner. Perhaps this could be an option for PD (pretty easy to implement).
Hardware device direct access??? Parallels provides emulated devices, not direct access to hardware. This seems to be a policy decision. I've been a software developer for decades, and I see no reason why direct hardware pass through wouldn't be possible if they wanted to do it, including CD drives, USB devices, etc. and I'd really, really like to see that. I've asked several times for either direct pass through of user selected USB devices or an explanation of why they couldn't do it, and haven't gotten a reply. I feel the product would be more useful to me and probably to a lot of other folks if this were available. If I were Parallels (which I'm not) I'd either do it or tell the group I wasn't able to do it, and I wish the Parallels team would say something on the subject
