Use existing Windows partition

Hello All,

If these questions have been answered please bear with me, I am a noob

I have recently installed Ubuntu and am in love with it. Anyhow I already have windows installed and do not want to reinstall everything including all the updates, programs etc. in a new VM partion. Is there any way to just have parallels point to the existing windows installation?

If not then what is the advantage/disadvantage of using parallels in linux over kvm?
