I have two software programs that require USB security keys. The first is a Feitian ROCKY4 key and the other is a HASP key. Both of these keys worked perfectly in beta 6, but both generate an error (USB device in use) error when inserted in the RC build. I know that USB is still a work in progress, but the current version takes a big step back from beta 6 in my case.

Between this and the sound issue, I am back to beta 6 until there is a newer version that supports all of the same hardware.

OK, I am not sure what happened, but the HASP key that was working fine in beta 6 now will not work correctly there either. I see the device detected in device manager, but it is banged out with a code 10 (cannot start). Normally I get two devices in device manager (USB tree), one is the USB key and the other is the USB HASP. I see the USB key, with the error and nothing else. I'd guess if the key loaded successfully, the other one would show up just fine.

I have found that if I delete the device and then do a scan for new hardware the device is found and loads successfully. However, once I remove the device and re-plug it is back to the same state as above. Are other folks always successful with the HASP device in beta 6? Anybody else seen this and have a solution?

Apparently I enjoy talking to myself :) . Some additional digging and I found that I can make the HASP key work once if I disable the USB Key device that failed to start and then enable it. This will cause the device to start and the HASP key device to load as well.

The problem is that occassionally it will hang the device manager when I re-enable the USB key. This problem is fatal and even though the machine is still alive, attempts to restart hang on the blue background after the shutting down dialog disappears. I have to reset the VM to get the machine back up and running. This does not appears to always happen (could be I went to fast in the test process).

I am not sure if any of this helps parallels in getting these devices to work reliable, but it is my hope!

Andrew responded in another thread that they are aware of the break made in the USB in RC1, and that it has been corrected for RC2. My Hasp (Aladdin) also broke with the release of RC1.

Yes - broken USB support for devices which were working in Beta6 is supposed to be fixed. We are going to send experimental internal build with this fix to number of beta testers to verify this.

Andrew, this problem, is in beta 6. At one point I had this HASP device working in beta 6, but I've since run into the problem described in this thread. Not sure if this is fixed in the upcoming RC or not. That's why I wanted to make sure you folks saw this. Thanks.
