We are running Linux (Ubuntu 20.4 and 24.04) on several hundred clients. A few months ago one of our departments bought a software from a third company provided via Parallels Server. Thus we deployed the Parallel Client (19.4 and 20.0) to our linux desktops. During the daily work we are encountering a lot of problems. The company asked us to use only version 19.4, but the problems are the same on both versions. We also compared the behavior with the windows client, most of the problems do not occur on windows. NumPad: The state of the numpad-key is not reported to the remote server. The user has to toggle the numpad whenever she switches into the parallels session. This behavior is very annoying for users who often switch between local and remote applications. This problem does not occur on windows. Drive Mapping The drive mapping cannot be edited in the parallels client. It is possible to add a mapping, and the mapping is correctly stored in the config file. After restarting the client, die mapping is not visible. Our workaround is starting the client with the desired mapping as command line parameter. Windows behavior The remote application opens several sub-windows. Often these windows open behind other windows on the user desktop. Users are not able to find these windows. Performance The performance is really bad. We are also using some citrix application from other suppliers, where we do not encounter these issues. This problem occurs on windows too. I assume, this is a problem we cannot solve on the client side. Freezing User complain about freezing sessions/windows. We haven't seen this problem on windows. From the users point of view the NumPad and the Windows-behavoir problems are the most annoying issues. We do not have much experience with Parallels. Does anyone use the linux client in a corporate environment and can share her/his experience with us? I would be glad about any feedback. Thanks Mathias
