    Quick painful story:

I was shutting the cover of my mac and something went wrong - maybe I opened it during the sleep process... Anyway, I opened the macbook and it gave me the black screen - I had to shut down with 5sec push of the power button. On restart, I tried to return to my work on Parallels (XP) and the computer wouldn't start. I got the blue screen of death (BSOD) from XP, and then it would try and restart. The progress bar would start to freeze, then go really fast, then freeze... and BSOD

My goal is to get back a few documents that I was working on at the time of crash (everything else is backed up, but those docs are very important and represent hours of work)

Here's what I've tried (nothings worked):

    Deleting moving the lock file.
Attaching the .hdd to a new computer as a second drive (healthy computer won't open)
Using a windows disk to boot into bad .hdd (gets to repair, then freezes)
Using a BartPE disk to boot into bad .hdd (gets to repair, then freezes)
Using GetDataBack to access the drive (can see the files I want, files don't come out correctly, customer support says they can't support Parallels .hdd)
I'm now trying the instructions at http://kb.parallels.com/en/5138

    My questions are:
    1) Will this destroy the data on the .hdd (in which case I'm not interested in doing it, since my backup is working fine and I just want the data)
    2) Should I try anything else...

    thanks,
    Mike in windozia

    Hello,

Windows Repair which is stated in that article is perfectly fine. It will repair all the broken links and corrupted files. It will not affect your data in any manner.
So, please go ahead and perform the steps in the article mentioned.

I tried it. Didn't work, kept asking me for the SP3 disk and the XP Pro disk. Any other help?
