    Hi,

I recently installed the trial version of Parallels Build 3186 and love it. I am planning on buying Parallels and my question is, if I buy the retail version of Parallels from my local Apple Store (the physical box), do I have to reinstall anything or just enter in an activation code? I have spent a lot of time configuring my Windows XP Virtual Machine and don't want to take any chances. I have seen similar threads about upgrading to the full version of Parallels and they mention using a license key. Does the retail box of Parallels include a license key and if so, is all I have to do is type that into Parallels? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The answer depends on where you live. If the Apple store is in North America, you are safe using the boxed version's install key. You don't need to install the software -- just the key.

You can also do a search and get it cheaper from an on line vendor, or if you are in a hurry, you can buy a key on line via the Parallels site (redirect). All you need is the key.

OTOH, if you live elsewhere, the boxed version's key won't work and you'll be stuck until localized versions are released, and you will have to reinstall the app, and do an upgrade from the app menu. Between the reinstall of the app, and the upgrade, you won't want to try running your VM since you'll probably scramble the tools.

I'd buy a North American key myself.

Thanks for the help. I'm in North America and I got it from my Apple store and everything is working great.

    Thanks again
