    Hi all

I already had windows xp installed on my macbook pro via bootcamp but i was getting fed up of rebooting to use windows apps so i purchased Parallels, this took hold of my bootcamp partition and i have been using xp.

The problem i have is XP is running really slow and was also when was only using boot camp so I'm guessing its a problem with XP and nothing else, i have now purchased windows 7 in hope to speed things up a bit and do away with xp.

What is the best way to install this and remove xp? can i install windows 7 as another virtual machine and once installed copy files from xp to windows 7? or is it better to back up what few files are stored on xp to disk then do a clean install of windows 7?

any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks
    Dan

    Upgrading from XP to Win7

I went through this a couple days ago - took me hours to figure out - tried everything. So what worked for me was to clean install the upgrade W7 upgrade by creating a new virtual machine, using the Parallels wizard, and then a W7 user account. At no point during this first installation, if I recall correctly, was I asked to enter the activation code.

Once installed, I launched W7 and logged in, and then from within W7 ran the W7 upgrade again - it was at this point that I entered the activation code. I gleaned much of this from other users through Google search. So it seems you don't even need XP to install the W7 upgrade, odd.

I did try to upgrade from within XP, but the installer would start going, and crash halfway through the install process. Go figure, reminds me why I use a Mac normally. W7 is quite bit snappier than XP, and with P7, the whole package works pretty nicely.

    Good luck.
