Hello, I have Parallells 3 currently installed on my Mac. I have an installation of Windows XP and MS Office on the virtual machine. If I upgrade to 5, do I need to reinstall XP and Office from the CDs? Or will they carry over from the old installation of Parallels 3 to the new? (Problem is, I'm not sure if I still have the CDs...) If anyone could help me answer this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Bryan
Boy, I am interested in this process. I am converting WIN 2000 Pro to XP Pro and the next step may be going from Parallels 3.0 (Build 5608) to 5 so that I can then upgrade my iMac to OS 10.6 with all of the performance enhancements. Please keep us posted.
XP Pro Conversion Done - Now PD 3 -> 5 Needed I have completed my conversion from Win 2000 Pro to XP pro - not easy. I would like to upgrade my Mac to Mac OS X 10.6 for improved performance. I understand that this requires going to PD 5 before the Mac OS X upgrade. I currently have PD for Mac 3.0 version 5608. Can anybody share upgrade process and gotchas? Can I go directly to PD 5 from my old 3.0 version? Or???? Is it possible to clone the old VM with the old PD 3.0 version and create an entirely separate one under 5.0 while preserving the old for use for testing and conversion trauma?
Not that I have done it, but I do not see any reason why you can not just clone your VM and then upgrade the cloned one to PD5. Should work but just so you know, you most likely will only be able to have 1 PD version on your Mac. BTW, PD 6 was just released as well. If you want to go straight to PD6 then you need to follow an additional step to get the right key if you bought it from a vendor different then Parallels.
