After upgrading last week from PD9 to PD10 I have numerous problems with my Win 8.1 VM. Note, this VM has been trouble free for the entire time it ran under PD9. Now it is a constant problem -- such as:
1) Windows boot time is significantly longer -- up to a minute. Under PD9 the VM booted in seconds
2) Applications fail during launch. The beachball spins indicating the app is launching and then nothing happens.
3) PD10 seems to be incompatible with many applications. I've had to unsinstall then reinstall the applications in order to get them to work again with this VM. That does not always solve the problem.
4) Task Manager fails to launch. Ctrl-Alt-Delete brings up the menu from which Task Manager can be selected, but clicking that menu item results in nothing happening
5) The VM always fails shutdown saying that some (unidentified) app is running, but nothing is running -- then the VM hangs
6) When the VM fails, PD10 fails, and it is necessary to reboot the Mac just to clear the situation.
7) When an application fails the content of the start menu disappears -- the menu is blanked out
8) When Parallels 10 is shut down, a process for "Windows 8 Pro" remains active in OS X Activity Monitor and consumes a large portion of CPU pre
9) One of the applications that prevents shutdown is the Parallel's "Hardware Monitor Window" -- which I have never opened and never had problems with under PD8 or PD9.
10) PD10 will not boot the VM in Safe Mode -- the instruction in this KM article are ignored (http://kb.parallels.com/en/118732) -- the boot selector screen appears for a second and then the machine boots into normal mode
I've seem the thread with instructions for removing PD10 and re-installing PD9, which I will do in a few days unless Parallels can provide some indication that it is aware of PD10's instabilty and has a fix in the works.
