I have Parallels 5 on a 24" iMac using XP Pro. I used the Parallels Updater to download Build 9310. The file, at 226.6 mb, came in with the following name: ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9310.546799.dmg.prlupd-part. Double-clicking this file name does nothing but bring up the "what application do you want to use to open this file" dialog box. Removing the "prlupd-part" extension does no good either. I have tried the updater download twice, on different days, and have gotten the same file both times.

What, if anything, is wrong and how do I get this update installed?

    Respectively,
    Patricia

best probably to just download the latest build from the website, parallels.com. you'll download an image; just install the latest build, it will not harm your serial number or your VM.

Thank you. I did as you suggested and all went well. I was concerned about the serial number since the company insisted on emailing me a trial activation#.
