I spent hours last night trying to install the above OS. It's an original copy which hasn't been used before (honest) but it starts to install and then hangs about half way through and keeps on trying to restart! Any tips? Is there a way to download a full upto date copy of XP on the net and use my (paid for) product key? Thanks
Not legally. You are saying yours is a XP Pro, is it an original or a SP1 version of CD. If that is the case, you might want to lookup Slipstreaming SP2 into your copy so you can install it. I had to do this to install mine. Also make sure your original version is not a OEM version, like from COMPAQ, HP, DELL, etc...These look for the actual computer in the bios... Good luck
Just to add... ALL Windows XP versions regardless of service pack number is shown as 'Version 2002' in System Properties. Therefore it is redundant. The server counterpart of Windows XP is 'Version 2003', but the official name for that is 'Windows 2003 Server' anyway, so that's redundant as well.
It an original. My sister won it years ago at a college fair. I have a CD with SP1 on it. So I guess slip streaming is the way ahead!
