    1. You missed right forum.
    2. Please, provide more information about where it stopped and what did you see on screen.

    specify any details

Can you specify when does it block any response to your installing?

Same Problem WinXP Pro and Parallels 3

I have the same problem trying to install Windows XP Pro. I tried installing with the CD and an ISO image with no success. I emailed support and they suggested that I install from an ISO CD image even though I had written that I already tried that.

Next I installed Beta VMWare and successfully installed Windows XP with the same CD.

Finally, I uninstalled version 3 build 4560 and installed a friend's copy of version 2 build 1940 and successfully installed Windows XP using the same ISO image - no problems.

Is yours a clean install of v3?

    Same problem here.

I am getting this same issue. It will start the setup process, then it will jump to the Blue Screen Of Death and the Virtual Machine will stop.

This is using a brand new Windows XP CD. Not sure what the next step would be in fixing (or identifying) the problem.

I too, am having very similar experiences trying to install Windows XP Home SP1.

In this case, it's an upgrade (using a Windows 98 license).

I've tried installing using both the original CD and an iso image. At various stages of the install, I sometimes get a BSOD or a reboot - not always at the same point during installation - generally near 'Installing Devices or Network'.

BSOD refers to a page frame error (precise memory location varies each time).

Have played around with just about every (memory) configuration option with varying degrees of sucess - auto/manual max memory, pre-allocation of swap file, etc.

Once managed to complete the install - random crashes, resulting in a terminal error during installation of SP2.

I'm less than impressed. I purchased this product following the glowing reviews I'd read. The truth, it seems, is a little different.

    [EDIT]

BTW, I'm attempting to run this on a brand new iMac (2.something GHz, 2GB RAM) - factory install, fully patched prior to installing PDM 3.0

No luck for me either. Installed and uninstalled 5 times. Windows XP Home froze every time... 36 minutes left on the clock.

I tried every tip I could find to make this work, original disk, ISO, stood on my head and prayed to Bill Gates... nothing seemed to fly.

Beta VMWare installed without a hitch, running XP Home and happy. I'm willing to come back but 3.0 seems to have more issues than earlier versions.

I gave up in the end and installed VMWare Fusion - works beautifully - and currently only half the price.

I'm very dissapointed with Parallels 3.0 - The high version number, to me at least, implies that the product is out of Beta - there are a large number of posts on this forum which would seem to indicate otherwise.

I don't suppose anyone has managed to get their money back?

I had the same problem. Windows hung at installing devices. With nothing else to do, I restarted the VM and when it came up it automatically tried to reinstall and it worked the second time.

I must admit, it's a little disappointing to have so many people with the same problem, and no answer here by Parallels. Do they not read/respond to issues in the forum, or is it just users out here on their own?

Add me to the growing list of disgruntled, frustrated and fed-up new purchasers of Parallels. I am using a brand new version of Windows XP/SP2, and I've had the exact same problems you all have had.

I started a new thread on this topic before I found this one.

Wish I'd seen all these threads before I got talked into buying Parallels ....

I've had the same problems and tried everything I've seen on the forums. The only conclusion I can draw is this is lousy software. And the support, what precious little there is, sucks.

I solved the problem! Bought VMWare Fusion, and had Windows up and running in about 15 minutes. I think what took the longest in the whole process was finding my Windows installation disk! ;)

I hate to trash a product on its own "support" forum, but maybe if the Parallels people read these posts, they'll get it together to offer solutions before they lose more customers.

    Well?

I am having the same problem and there's no way I'm going to spend $30 for an answer. Has anyone figured this out?

    PLEASE HELP!!

Yup - Buy VMWare Fusion - seriously - it works.

BTW - I am still waiting for someone from SWSoft to reply to my request for a refund - Parallels 3.0 is not fit for purpose, as a UK consumer I have rights under the UK Consumer Protection Act. The claims SWSoft make about the product are missleading.

It does not work as stated. Put more plainly... it doesn't work.

Yesterday, this article was posted to the knowledge base.

Installing Windows OS from Disk Image File Using Mac OS X Disk Utility. Problems During Windows Installation. Installation from the Disk Fails.

    http://kb.parallels.com/entry/30/458/

I was experiencing the same problem as described in this thread where I installed Parallels 3.0 on my Mac and then the XP home edition install would hang while trying to boot from the hard drive. I uninstalled & reinstalled Parallels several times but always the desktop came up with the same configuration page & OS window.

I followed the directions in the above article & created a brand new virtual machine (named Damn Windows XP). Now XP is running on my Mac like it is right at home. Maybe the cuss word was what it was waiting for? Now I just need to figure out how to delete all the busted virtual machines that ended up on my desktop from trying to follow the directions in the manual.

    Hope this helps.
