    Hi,

    I've an annoying issue.
The hdd file that is a windowsXP image refuses to be copied either by using :
    - finder copy
    - shell cp
    - zip utility
    - .dmg or iso
    …

The image just works well btw.
It is > 6 Go and the compressing utility just keeps it like that, eventhough it only contains 3 Go of datas.

The "corrupted" file seems to be the ones that is included in the package folder that correspond to the virtualised hard drive.
No clue how to backup this file !

When using the shell, I got an i/o error output.

    If someone gets an idea…
    Thanks by advance.

You've got enough free space on the volume you're trying to copy to, correct? I'm guessing you've already made sure of this; I'm just asking for completeness' sake. What about disk corruption? Have you run Disk Utility to verify the volume and repair permissions?

    Yep. :)

    Yep, twice.
I even used Onyx (titanium utility) on the drive.

    Thanks for trying.

The .hdd and .pvs file should be in a folder that has the name of your VM. Have you tried copying the entire folder?

This worked for me. I opened 2 finder windows: one showing the VM folder and the other showing a folder on a backup Firewire drive. I rightclicked the VM folder, clicked copy. Then in the backup folder, I rightclicked inside the folder and selected paste. It worked.

I'm sure you have already tried this, but if not, maybe worth a try.

Also, i am sure you are not running the VM while trying to copy?

where are you trying to copy the vm files to ?

what format is the filesystem youre trying to copy them to ? FAT32 wont support files over 2gb in size and will throw an i/o error usually. Make sure your external drive is hfs+ or another writable filesystem that allows large files to be written.

The file system itself or another removable disk.
What are you thinking about that ?!

I try to copy a windows XP file system on my mac hfs+ system.
    I don't know if hfs+ can handle > 6Gb files ?
