I've installed Workstation 2.5 on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) thanks to all the various pieces of advice and the special build for 2.6.20. I am having one odd problem, however... I have "Desktop Effects" enabled on my system which, as I understand it is Compriz. When I start a VM, the console window is transparent (translucent) which while cute on a text console is downright annoying on a graphical one. Anybody have a suggestion on how to disable the transparency in Parallels without turning off Desktop Effects? Thanks... John
I had the same problem. I solved it by following the steps at this link: http://mepislovers.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-4984.html
Unfortunately, the instructions are for Beryl instead of Compiz (i.e., Ubuntu "Desktop Effects"). A similar fix (and one which should probably be added to future Parallels releases) can be found at the bottom of: http://www.monkeyhelper.com/2006/07/ubuntu_dapper_tips_tricks.html
a known fix This worked for me. it is an an archived thread SLED 10.1, Gnome http://forum.parallels.com/thread940.html
The fix still works, but the file to edit is /usr/lib/parallels/parallels NOT /usr/bin/parallels as indicated in the fix linked above. Ubuntu 7.10 Host, any guest.
