Ubuntu 6.06 and Parallels

I had Parallels installed on my Ubuntu 6.06 system earlier and had no problems. I decided to purchase it for that reason, no installation problems. I had a serious hardware problem and decided to upgrade my computer. I now have a AMD dual core CPU and two SATA drives, one with Ubuntu and one with XP. I installed Parallels on my Ubuntu 6.06 system and now when trying to "parallels-config" I get the following message:

Compiling Parallels Workstation 2.2 drivers...

Can not compile and/or link drivers. Read /usr/lib/parallels/doc/INSTALL
and follow instructions specified in this document.

I have the correct linux-headers installed and I can't get it past this point. Any sugguestions would be appreciated.

Are you sure you kernel souces is installed?

You probably need to install the compilers and the qt3 library too
Type sudo apt-get install build-essential libqt3-mt

I'm currently evaluating Parallels 2.2 on Kubuntu 6.06. I've finished installing (using the .deb package) and confugration (parallels-config). I get this error message when I try to issue "parallels" from the command line:

Any ideas what's wrong?

 

Someone else had this problem a bit ago and it was related to a library being renamed on launch. Try running Parallels as root and see if it helps: sudo parallels

 

Hmm... it worked with sudo. Is there a way so that I don't have to run Parallels as root?
