I have 2 needs for parallels desktop: XP to play on-line poker, and dos to run some industry specific analysis tools. Now, I got XP installed no problem. I also figured out how to make a floppy image, use XP to install dos 6.22 on it, and I can boot off that floppy into dos. What I can't seem to do is format a new hard drive for use in my DOS VM.

When building the new VM, a hard drive image was created. I can't seem to format it form dos using:

    format c:

also, if I specify my xp drive as my hard drive in the dos VM, I can't access it by typing 'c:'.

And finally, I tried connecting my new unformatted drive image to my xp VM to format it, but it doesn't show up under 'my computer' but does show up under device manage as being unformatted.

Can anyone help me? I am not a DOS or windows person, so I seem to be laking some knowledge about how to get this done.

You need to partition the new image first. Run fdisk under DOS. Select create new partition->primary partition->(use as much size as it will let you)->commit.

    Then reboot.

    Now format should see it.
