    I have a 2.7ghZ i7 Mac with OS 10.8.4 and 4GB RAM.

I downloaded a trial version of Parallels 9.

I have the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade ISO downloaded from Microsoft (we are a volume licensor). Our IT guy says this is what we need, it works fine with Bootcamp. (Although I've never used that.)

I have it in both ISO and with the ISO burned to DVD.

I have tried several times unsuccessfully to create a new virtual machine.

    1. Install Windows from a DVD or image file.
    2. Select the image file or DVD, either, it doesn't matter, same result.
    3. Express installation, version requires no product key.
    4. Like a Mac or Like a PC, either choice seems to produce same result.
    5. Name: Windows 7. /users/justinlong/documents/parallels
on screen 6, "Virtual Machine Creation," there is a popup which tells me my activation will expire in [11] days. I hit "LATER"
Now I get a screen that tells me it can't ifnd a boot device.
    SATA drive 1... failed.
    SATA optical drive 2... failed
    Floppy drive... failed
Networking... no boot filename received [failed]
No boot device is available, press Enter to continue.

I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? There's probably no boot device on the virtual drive because it hasn't been initialized yet. I'm going from an ISO so it shouldn't need that, right?

    Please help!

You say it's an upgrade ISO? I'm not sure you can do a clean install of the OS from an upgrade ISO. Since you haven't tried it in Boot Camp, there's no way of knowing if it should work.
