Since I installed parallels a few months ago, i can no longer sync my Treo to Mac apps like iCal. Attempting to reinstall the Treo drivers results in a bunch of error messages. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem?

    Treo 680 sync

yes the problem is when parallels is not running. If Parallels is running, it tries to take over the USB connection to the Treo. Earlier beta releases of Parallels did not interfere with the Treo software, but starting about 4 months ago, sync suddenly stopped working.

With Parallels and Windows running... If you have defined your vm to automount/auto-attach devices then yes, Windows will take them away from OS X. If you don't have things set up for Windows to auto-grab then only those things you check in the Parallels Devices menu will be subject to conflict. In the case of the Palm this is something you can see only with Parallels and Windows running, and after you've pressed the hotsync button on your cable or cradle. You need to quickly open the Parallels Devices->USB window and look for Palm Handheld or something similar. Uncheck that if it's checked.

But - when Parallels is off there is nothing running to snatch your USB port, so it sounds like your OS X Palm transport software is not running. Look for "Transport Monitor" in your Activity Monitor. It is the tool that listens for the Palm signature to show up on the USB port - it won't start the HotSync Manager if it's not running. Check the Palm Desktop HotSync options to see if the transport is enabled, and if not, enable it.
