Is it possible to transfer a compleet PC tru a HD Dock. The machine is crashed, so i only have the HD of the machine. Can i put this in a USB Dock and transfer it to a Parallels 9 Guest OS.
You can create a new virtual machine, point it at the hard drive as a Boot Camp hard disk, then import from Boot Camp. Parallels Desktop -> File -> New -> Install Windows -> Continue without source, Continue -> Select the OS version that's on the USB hard drive -> Like a PC (you can switch to Like a Mac later) -> Customize Settings before installation, Continue -> Hardware -> [+] -> Hard Disk -> Type: Boot Camp, select your external USB disk, make sure all partitions are selected -> Close -> Continue At this time, it will try to boot but fail since Hard Disk 2 was not added to the Boot order which is good since you don't want to modify your external disk yet. Really, Parallels should add a "Create and Exit" or "Done" button beside the "Continue" button and rename the "Continue" button as "Create and Start" or "Start". Click Stop to stop the virtual machine since it won't boot. Then Configure -> Hard Disk 1 -> click [-] to remove Hard Disk 1, Move to Trash (Hard Disk 2 becomes Hard Disk 1 now) -> Boot Order -> add Hard Disk 1 to the boot order -> Close Now that the virtual machine is created, you can select it and use Import Boot Camp... Parallels will copy the contents of your USB Hard drive to a new virtual hard disk in a new virtual machine. Once you verify that the new virtual is usable, you can select the old virtual machine and remove it -> Move to Trash. I think Parallels could simplify this process by adding an Import from Boot Camp option beside the Install Windows option, since you're not actually installing Windows.
