I worked up a short / quick shell script to install the PreReq's for installing Parallels on Ubuntu. I have tested on Ubuntu 7.04, but it should work for other Ubuntu versions as well.

Simply download, unzip, make sure it has the executable bit set, and run as root (aka sudo).

Hi -- I've got a thread below because I am having a problem getting parallels to run on ubuntu 7.01 -- I tried your script to no avail. It does the same thing when I try to run parallels, i.e. pauses for a few seconds and then comes back to the command line. Any other suggestions ?

    Thanks !

I fought with 7.10 for a while, finally gave up and got GREAT success with 7.04. From the looks of Ubuntu forums, I had good company with 7.10 troubles.

thanks -- perhaps I'll try that. I'll have to check on the differences between 7.04 and 7.10, but since I just installed ubuntu two days ago with the express purpose of running parallels, I have not invested anything in that version.

I'm not getting anywhere at this point -- I tried 7.04 and got the same results. Perhaps it's a hardware issue because these are absolutely clean installs on a PC that I just built in the last few days. Other than trying an older PC I'm not sure what to do next.
