After I bought my upgrade to Parallels Desktop Upgrade, I received the following email: "1 Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac (7/8 Upgrade) electronic Your product key: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Instant download File size: 289 MB. Your download link is valid until 27/10/2015. Note: The date specified for this download link does not affect the validity of your license." I downloaded and saved Version 11.0.1-31277 which is now sitting in my Documents folder. I have not got far with installing PD11 since it does not support my host OS. I am still running Snow Leopard, and have put on hold plans to upgrade my OS to El Capitan following reports of instability and inferior UI compared to Snow Leopard, which is generally regarded as the best version for a laptop, much as XP is by far the best version of Windows (and the reason I have Parallels on my mac). I have no interest in the Cloud, which I consider insecure, nor compatibility with Smartphone technology, and I use my laptop to play and record CDs and DVDs. All that Snow Leopard lacks is security updates, so I keep my Antimalware applications up-to-date, delete all dodgy emails and hope for the best. Will my upgrade be honoured when I get round to upgrading to El Capitan (perhaps by version 7 or 8, they will have sorted it out)? I presume later versions than 11.0.1 will not recognise upgrades from PD8 (hence the time limitation), but my license should remain valid, and all I need then do is to update PD11 to the latest version as soon as it is installed. Is this correct? If not, then this is perhaps a good reason not to upgrade my OS for the foreseeable future (much as I shunned Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite).
Yes, you can activate your version of Parallels Desktop 11 once you get a compatible OS. And you need to upgrade to Mavericks or higher to install Parallels Desktop 11.
