I'm attempting to install a Windows 7 VM in Parallels 8 from an existing Windows 7 installation on a Dell Precision notebook. My Mac is a 15-inch MBP with Retina running OS X 10.8.2.

I have run Parallels Transporter on my Windows machine and it appears to complete successfully, creating a .pvm file on my external HDD. I am then attempting to install this in Parallels 8 on my Mac by creating a new VM, selecting "Migrate Windows from a PC," then "External storage device," and selecting the .pvm created by Parallels Transporter from my external HDD. When I hit "Continue" on the "Preparing to Copy" screen, I receive the error message:

"The virtual machine configuration file is not found.

Try to create a new virtual machine and add virtual disks from this virtual machine to the new virtual machine configuration."

I cannot proceed beyond this. I have attempted several things to resolve this:

    1) Uninstall and reinstall Parallels Transporter on my Windows machine and create a new .pvm. The new .pvm generates the same error message on my Mac.

    2) Uninstall and reinstall Parallels 8 on my Mac. Same problem.

    3) Follow the advice in the error message and attempt to create a new Windows 7 VM and add virtual disks from the Parallels Transporter .pvm. This appears to work correctly until I attempt to boot Windows, when the system bluescreens and reboots.

Any ideas on resolving this? The only other post I've seen about this is here: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=262573. The user had an identical problem but no resolution is given. As indicated in that thread, I've submitted problem reports from both my Mac and Windows machines but, while I'm waiting to hear back on that, I figured I would see if anyone else has found a way to solve this problem.

    Thanks in advance.
