I'm running Parallels 8 (latest version) on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro with 4gb ram. OS 10.8.5 I'm using it to run Apple's Snow Leopard Server (and nothing else), using MichaelLAX's instructions.

My entire system (i.e. outside Parallels as well as inside the VM) is running super slow. Parallels VM is NOT taking a large amount of my CPU (in Activity Monitor). I've seen it dart up to 70%, but generally it's under 20%.

    • No other apps are running.
    • I've disconnected all perpipherals and devices. Parallels and the virtual machine are all right hear on my internal drive (which has 10g free space).
    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results.
    • Disk Utility says the disk is fine, and permissions are repaired.

Update: I've followed the instructions for slow-downs not yielding a high CPU usage on this page . When I started up the "Test" server (which, per instructions, had been switched to launch my original virtual machine), it just kept "trying to boot from sata drive 1"
