I was trying to use an application that requires a ctrl-click, which I have mapped to the right-click. The reason I have ctrl-click mapped to the right-click is because Parallels won't allow me to map cmd-click to the right-click. I do not want the right-click to be alt-click because other applications usually use cmd-click or ctrl-click for the right-click. And the reason why cmd-click cannot be mapped to the right-click is because Parallels insists that cmd is the Windows/Start button. Since Mac OS uses the cmd button to activate menus and switching between applications the Start button is constantly pressed, as if that was good for anything; especially since ctrl-esc also activates the Start button. I find it most unbelievable that one annoying feature that I don't need interferes with using the system. Since the cmd key doesn't exist in Windows, it is most ideal for functionality that has nothing to do with Windows itself, like the right-click and communication with Mac OS. So why exactly does Parallels map cmd to the Windows key???
Ummm ..... perhaps because you mac doesn't have a Windows key. And there are things in Windows that are best done with the Windows key.
You actually thought that that didn't occur to me, didn't you? Well, the Start button can be activated by pressing ctrl-esc. Windows-L for locking the screen doesn't make much sense within Parallels (you better lock the Mac screen), and most other shortcuts that require the Windows key are rarely used. (Few people seem to know Windows-L and Windows-D, I don't know many others either.) So, yes, it occured to me that that could be the reason, but if it was, I'd find myself more often using the CMD key as a Windows key and not so often frustrated by it being mapped to the Windows key, wouldn't I?
If using a macbook or macbook pro, I'd recommend NOT mapping anything to the right-click and do right click through the two-fingers touch + click on the touchpad. If using another hardware, better use a two buttons mouse like the current mighty mouse. Else, sure, there are some limits when emulating right click.
There are usually not. I have never encountered these limits and I play StarCraft a lot. Usually a "right-click" is "click plus Apple key". Only the arrival of Parallels has changed that. There are not "sure" some limits, there never have been before. It keeps annoying me that the Start button considers itself pressed whenever I switch from Parallels to another Mac app via cmd-tab. I run Gimp too. Apple's X11.app also uses cmd-click for right-click, if I recall correctly. The behaviour is fairly universal, only Parallels specifically disallows it.
