I use .deb-Package (I use debian unstable (sid)). I use 1920x1200 with my X-Server, but X-Server supports much higher resolutions I think.

I can confirm this. I tried to programmning an Atmel µC using my STK500 Board which is connected via serial port. The programmer wasn't even recognized. Host was mandriva Linux, Guest Win98.
