I'm planing to buy windows 8, but my mac is not currently running any windows OE. Without upgrade, can I just go microsoft.com to download the windows 8 and Install? Or I must install the window 7 first. Thank you.
At this moment Microsoft only allows to buy an upgrade version of Windows 8 Pro. So the legal way for customers who do not have any version of Windows installed will be - buy Windows 7, install it and upgrade to Windows 8. We are waiting for the thing named "SYSTEM BUILDER FOR WINDOWS 8 PRO" which is intended to be used in virtual machines and when you are going to install Windows 8 on a clean PC. Thanks, Alex
Windows 8 System Builder version is an installation media for a computer that is not currently running Windows 7, Vista, or XP. License: http://personaluselicense.windows.com/en-US/default.aspx System Builder version can be activated according to version specification, e.g. "Windows 8 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD" can be activated only once (1pk). Make sure you have a backup of your activated Windows 8 VM to save your time and productivity if anything. If you are installing Windows 8 System Builder version in the manual mode – make sure you have selected the proper edition in the Windows 8 setup wizard – otherwise you will not be able to activate it (reinstallation will be required). I have not seen Windows 8 System Builder in the format other than DVD media. So make sure that your Mac is equipped with DVD drive or you have a machine where you can create a digital image.
