Disclaimer: I am very new to Solaris and may ask stupid questions.
Goal: Getting an environment to learn ZFS.
    I made a VM with Solaris 11 Express. I have a 64GB start drive at IDE 0:0
    I then added 8 more drives at the following interfaces;
    SATA 0:2
    SATA 0:3
    SATA 0:4
    SATA 0:5
    SATA 0:6
    SCSI 0:0
    SCSI 1:0
    SCSI 2:0

When running "format" I get only one line, supposedly for disk IDE 0:0 I get following:
    Searching for disks...
Failed to inquiry this logical diskdone

    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0. c7d0 <lots of garbage characters> cyl 8351 alt 2 hd 255 sec 63>
    /pci@0,0/pci-ide@1f,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0

    My questions are:
Is there any obvious error in my setup that prevents the disks to show up properly in format?
Is there a mapping table for the interfaces in PD6 and what /dev/dsk or /dev/rdsk the drive end up in?
Is there a VM with Solaris 11 Express and many disks attached available as a dowload somewhere?
