    Hi Forum Members :

I am trying to setup Solaris 10 as a Guest VM on my MacBook Pro, with OS X 10.4.6 as the Host OS. Through the Mac, I am connected to my corporate site using Cisco VPN (4.9.xx).

Now, when I boot Solaris using Bridged Only networking, everything works and I am able
to access the net without any troubles (No VPN established from the Mac yet).

When I switch the Guest VM to use Host-Only Network with Internet Sharing, using DHCP on both the Mac and the Guest VM, Solaris 10 doesn't connect to the outside world (Internet or Cisco VPN to corporate network). Listed below are the steps I took and the behaviour I observed :

    (1) Set Solaris 10 to obtain an IP address in the DHCP range 10.37.129.1-254. It gets 10.37.129.2. The Mac (en2) gets 10.37.129.1

    (2) On the Mac, go to the Sharing folder and turn on Internet Sharing from Airport to
Virtual Adapter, en2. The moment I start Internet Sharing on the Mac, the Mac's en2 address
    changes to 192.168.2.x.

    (3) So, obviously, now the Mac's en2 and ni0 from Solaris are not going to be able to communicate. The Solaris ni0 adapter is still at 10.37.129.2.

Why is it not able to switch to the 192.168.2.x subnet ? Doesn't Parallel's have some tools that will enable this ? I did read in another thread that it is not possible to change the Mac's behaviour to change the dhcp range from 192.168.2.x.

So, how can the Solaris 10 VM talk to the outside world in this mode ? I am lost and have even
    tried the following :

    (a) Set the Solaris 10 VM to have a static IP in the 192.168.2.x range, hoping that since it is now in the range 192.168.2.x, it might be able to bridge across to the outside world and connect to my corporate network. No go.

I will appreciate any suggestions to get this working.

    Thanks

    Regards
    Nishi

I had to add a default route in my Solaris machine. The Mac got 10.37.129.2 on en2, so Solaris needed a default route pointing there.
