Do the snapshots include system files? I don't think so. My windows 10 Vm (upgraded from win 7) got hosed with many corrupt system files. I have no idea how as I don't use it for internet browsing or much of anything except Quicken for windows. Trying to recover from a snapshot did not help. The usual windows recovery tools, SFC, DISM and an in place repair from an iso file or divd burned with the iso all failed. I recovered the .pvm (about 200gb) from time machine eventually, but using finder to do that failed and I eventually restored it using the cp command in terminal.
