    Hi there,

Running latest version of Desktop v.3 (release 5636, recently updated from 5626). Unknown what has happened but strange things are occurring and I don't know if they're related to the latest update, or not. My internet loading (and e-mail retrieval) have slowed noticeably, both on XP (SP3) and on Leopard 10.5.6. I am trying to find a cause for this. It doesn't matter whether XP is up and running, or whether I'm only using Leopard.

Virus -- is it possible that the XP side has been infected by a virus or other nasty? If so, how do I check for same and then hopefully successfully remove same?

Is there even a remote possibility that a virus could have infected the Mac side? What and how do I check for this? How do I then remove said nasty.

Router -- could there be issues with my Netgear router (3 years old)? Are there simply ways to check as to whether it is working properly?

If the problem is only on the XP side then could I safely remove all of XP (complete Parallels uninstall) and re-install same? Problem is, how do I know that any of my e-mails resident on webmail servers might not cause a future problem?

I was playing snippets of songs (Leopard) in the iTunes store the other evening (after this problem began) and the connection was so bad that I could only play 3 seconds of a song before the stream had to be rebuffered, then it would repeat, continually rebuffering the stream every 3 seconds. I've never seen it that bad, so I wondered if there's a connection between my internet page loading slowness and the problems I'm encountering both in XP and Leopard. Also, downloading e-mails with photos, etc. (any large attachment) takes way more time than it normally should.

One other note. I had installed IncrediMail (latest release) on XP. Could it be part of my problem? I know I've had issues with it in the past, i.e., a few years ago, and I have only just re-installed same.

It is possible that this problem is isolated to only one computer on the router network, but I'm not sure on this at the current time. This is the computer that I use the most often.

Ideas on what to check and how would really be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Lynn
