Mac OS X 10.4.7, iMac with 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, Build 1862 Beta August 7, 2006.

This and the release version have a serious nuisance problem.

I cannot figure out any way to control the resolution, and hence the size of the window, when Parallels Desktop is running in windowed (i.e. not in fullscreen) mode.

When installed, this screen is some reasonable size. On switching to fullscreen mode, it fills the screen; on switching out of fullscreen mode, it returns to displaying in a reduced-size window. However, for no apparent reason, after being used for a while, this windowed screen suddenly becomes exactly the same size as the iMac's physical screen, i.e. it becomes a window whose "client" area is 1440 by 900.

The reason this is a serious nuisance is that since AFAIK an OS X window still can only be dragged by its title bar (why? why?) there's no way to position the window so as to make the Windows taskbar accessible.

Have you unchecked the Parallels preference that allows OSX resolution to be changed?
