Should I install upgrade P9 on old iMac first, or move to new iMac first?

    Hello,

I just purchased the upgrade from P7 to P9 on my old iMac but have not yet installed it.

I also want to move this (Parallels with Win7) to my new iMac with Mavericks.

Should I install the upgrade on the old iMac and then do the move to the new iMac or should I install P9 on my new iMac and move the .pvm file to it without first running the P9 upgrade on the old iMac?

(I'm concerned about using the license key twice so close together if I upgrade first. Also, if the P7 .pvm file will work with P9 just by moving it. Hence the questions.)

    Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know if moving the pvm file from P7 on an old computer to another computer using P9 will be ok?

    Thanks.

It will be ok (unless it's bootcamp based), just don't delete the original until you are sure it works.

    Thanks for responding.

I ended up upgrading on the old iMac, then moving the pvm file to the new iMac, then installing Parallels 9 on the new machine. Most everything moved over successfully, though one program (with the Activation Key showing) won't let me run in anything but demo mode. Still tracking that one down.

The main reasons I needed Windows on the new computer seem to be working fine, so all is well.

Version 9 seems pretty sweet with Mavericks (so far), but I don't use it intensively.
