I have a series of lab macs where hundreds of users over the course of the term. Via Apple's Workgroup Manager, each user creates a new account on the machines they are logging on to, and I control many of the initial settings using Workgroup Manager and as a last resort, by configuring the plists in /System/Library/User Template.

All the users are accessing the Parallels VM that I have stored in /Users/Shared/Parallels.

Unfortunately I have not been able to get Parallels to automatically start this VM as the default VM. I have a workaround (see below) but it is not great. It looks like the default user's data is not stored within there account but is stored in vmdirectorylist.desktop.xml in /Library/Preferences/Parallels.

I know this sounds trivial, but I know users are going to find it confusing if Parallels does not by default start the desired VM that is in the Shared Account. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

    The workaround I have:
Instead of having Workgroup Manager place Parallels in the Dock of all my users, I have it place an Applescript Applet that I have entitled ParellelsLauncher. All it does is open the VM in /Users/Shared/Parallels. I had a few other workarounds but none of them are any better and no workaround is as good as if I can just have the Parallels App in the dock. (BTW, this is a new problem for me as this is the first term I am using Workgroup Manager. Previously I was using another solution where all users were accessing a common account folder. In this scenario, if I started the VM before making a clone, Parallels would remember that this was the default VM)
