reverse internet sharing

It's currently devilishly difficult to share the VM's internet connection with the host OS. It used to be doable with using the VM as a NAT router, but that solution stopped working somewhere around Big Sur and it isn't clear why. Host-only networking communication doesn't work like it used to. Current work-arounds are very complicated and unreliable.
