I had VMWare's Fusion installed (and deleted it) before I installed Parallels desktop. Now when I click on a Windows app, I get the message that The
"[application]" cannot be started. The application is installed in a virtual machine that cannot be located. Make sure that the virtual machine hasn't been deleted or moved to another location."
Apparently installing Parallels didn't create new file associations for the Windows apps. How do I get rid of all references to VMWare in my system? I've deleted the Library and .com files associated with VMWare to no avail. I was going to try a line of "sudo" code I saw posted on a board but my Mac insists on a nonexistent password to run it and I'm not sure how to create that password, unless it's looking for an administrator password that I never created because I'm the only one that uses my Mac.
Anyone got a clue on how to re-create those program associations as Parallels apps?
______
Additional Info.
I just discovered that I still have all the old Windows XP apps installed under me in the Users folder. I have a folder for Windows XP and Windows 10, and Microsoft Publisher, which is the program I'm working with in Parallels, was installed in Windows XP in VMWare Fusion. Apparently the Windows XP folder didn't get deleted when Fusion was deleted. The thing is, though, that all the files that appear in the XP folder have the Parallels parallel bars superimposed on them. So why is the computer trying to find VMWare? Should I just delete the XP folder?
