    Hey
Im very very new with mac and computers in general, so I hope this question isnt too lame for you all.

I was just wondering wether the ram-split partition between macos and windowsxp is definitive after running parallels or if it only splits it up in the process of running it. I have designated my macbook 1gb ram in a 50/50 mode between systems, so the question I guess is, after quitting parallels, does the program return the ram back to mac osx or not?
    Im kinda confused.

Second, Is it possible to designate more ram to the xp-system than recommended, say 800mb out of a giga, without serious damage?? Anyone with experience there?? The program recommends a max 588mb, but thats like living in the past...

    I hope you can help. :)
    Thanks for your time

Yes, memory is returned when Parallels quits.

Yes, it is possible to allocate more ram. You just tell it what you want.

Ok, sounds good with the return of the ram part. Now the second question with the ram maximum, I mean, is it possible to give it 80-90% without doing serious damage to soft or hardware.. (if that is at all possible)... Like I said, Im new to this...

    But thanks for your reply..

It's possible to give the VM more RAM than optimum. Overall performance will be at its best with some RAM allocated to the VM and some to the host. Where to draw the line has to be found by trial and error, and will not be at the maximum for the VM.

With 2 gig of RAM, I found that 768 meg for the VM with about 8-900 meg for Parallels (of which 768 is for the VM) is the sweet spot for a Win2k VM.

Experiment with your most demanding application and let us know what works best.
