When I first start my Parallels 4.0 and go into configuration, my RAM is set at 1024MB (which is the recommend value for my 4GB MacBook. With Parallels running, if I click on Parallels "configuatiion" under the pulldown menu in "Parallels", it says my RAM is 3072 MB. Why does my computer report different RAM figures?
Macaby. Could you please make screenshots of dialogs with RAM for both situations or specify problem with more details (which steps were done to retrieve information about RAM from Parallels and etc.). Unfortunately i can't currently understand where problem is due not quite understand your test case. PS Thank you very much for using PD 4.0.
What Ram Setting? Hi I have 2008 macbook 2.0ghz with 4gb ram. I currently have ram set to 512mb but everytime i start vm it starts increasing the size of ram needed for windows. I had been running at 1000mb but did the same and increased the size. What then should it be set for? ideally that is..
Hello Meillor and Macaby, could you please send us the .pvs file(Your_Virtual_Machine_Name.pvm->Sho package contents) so that we could create the virtual machine with the same configuration and reproduce the issue.
My post was entered in error. However, I do have a question about RAM and Parallels. I have my PD4 set for 1024MB of ram. IF I'm not using PD4 and it is NOT loaded, is ALL of my system memory available to OS X or is 1024MB reserved for PD4 regardless?
Yep, unless you have started a Virtual Machine, Parallels Desktop, even if it runs, will only take up a modest amount of memory, leaving the rest for the Host Mac OS X to use.
Let me describe situation: Parallels Desktop has different settings for Virtual machines and for using physical memory: 1. Parallels Desktop -Preferences -Memory allows to set amount of physical memory used by all Virtual machines. This memory will be cut from Mac OS 2. For each Virtual machine we have memory settings, which allows to set memory for Virtual machine. Let say you have 4 Gb of Ram on iMac you set in Preferences to allocate 2 GB for Virtual machines, in this case for mac OS the rest of memory will be available -2 Gb, even if Virtual machine name will be 8 GB, in this case 2 GB will be taken from RAm, and 6 GB is be swapping to disk
