?

Do you think Microsoft should make a free copy of XP where you don't need a key?

    Hello,

I own a Genuine copy of Windows XP Pro SP2. Like me, my friend has a Mac (OS X) too and I gave him the second license from the Parallels 4.0 CD when we first bought it. He had Windows for a while, but he accidently deleted his Virtual Machine (XP Pro) a few months back. Now he has Parallels with no VMs at all and he wants XP so bad. There is a problem...because he lives far away, he doesn't have the ability to use my XP disk (and I'm not mailing it!). He also has no money to buy an OEM/Retail copy. As a result, the only way for him is to download the free genuine .iso from a site called www.tipandtrick.net. The image disk method works without a product key and XP installs perfectly with no problem, but out of all the .iso copies that he downloaded, he can never authorize XP because you need a serial number (that yellow sticker that came with the PC) and every serial number he tried was either incorrect or invalid because Microsoft is so strict. As of now, he's stuck with a copy of XP that will end in 30 days. The watermark and annoying pop-ups are too much for him and he's begging me for a real copy of XP.

Now that I told you this sad little story, Here's my question on Cloning a VM. Whenever I stop my (valid) copy of XP, I have the option to clone the VM and even rename it. When I do clone, a new .pvm is saved in the Parallels folder with the MV's name... so I guess that this is the actual Virtual Machine. Now, if I e-mail him a copy (the .pmv file), will he get that same copy? If so, will it work? (remember, he has the same copy of Parallels 4.0 that I have) That way, he can delete all of my documents and media and he can put his stuff on it. If this method works, he'll be so happy to have a working copy of XP Pro...which would be wonderful!

Please tell me if this method would work because it's the only way. I really need your help.

    Thank You
