Hello! Nice to be here! I've been using Parallels desktop since it first appeared and have several VMs set up. Most commonly I use XP but I also use Windows ME a lot. Recently I updated to the 3188 release and found 'ME would not boot properly and crashed. On restarting I was allowed into the "Safe Mode". This I did to try and solve the new problem. Nothing seemed awry. The *.hdd image was the one I'd used for a long time with the earlier release. I tried to reinstall Parallels Tools but to no avail. Basically I could get into Safe Mode but not Normal. I did a fresh install of 'ME (using my original CD etc) The process completed OK, but again the system would not boot, except into Safe Mode. I confirm however that XP worked fine throughout. So, in desperation I reinstalled Parallels Desktop 1970. 'ME is now working as it should again. It seems I now have both versions of Parallels in the folder so perhaps I can continue like this. Anyone have any clues as to what I've done wrong to ruin 'ME with 3188? Thanks!
Have you tried backing everything up, un-installing Parallels tools, then do another back-up, and then do a complete un-install as outlined in this thread: http://forum.parallels.com/thread1226.html After you do that, try using your old HD without the tools. See if it works.
Hello! Thanks for the link. I'm going to have to give that a try. So far I've just reinstalled the old 1970 version of Desktop and am running that alongside 3188. 1970 runs my ME VM fine. I keep getting the notion, from the way the system crashes, that this is a graphics driver problem. I can't prove it because Parallels installs it's own drivers.
