    Hello;

Today I upgraded my Parallels Desktop to 4.0.3810 from v3. My previous XP virtual machine setup worked just fine.

After the upgrade my mouse only works for a very short period of time, to say, open Internet Explorer. Then it stops functioning. The keyboard does not respond as well.

    I have tried:

-Booting into Boot Camp and updating the Apple drivers
    -Uninstalling and reinstalling Parallels Tools
-Connecting a dedicated USB mouse to the virtual machine.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

If the keyboard does not work as well and assuming that you have a virtual machine based on a Boot Camp partition, I would suggest first to try the following:
    1. Uninstall Parallels Tools.
    2. Remove the virtual machine completely.
    3. Create a new virtual machine based on a Boot Camp partition.

    Check if the issue persisits.
Also, there are two articles regarding the issues with keyboard/mouse:

If the keyboard does not work: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5777
If the maouse does not work: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5735

    Didn't work

-I booted into Boot Camp and uninstalled Parallels Tools.
-Rebooted into OS-X and deleted the virtual machine.
-Created a new virtual machine selecting Boot Camp Partition
-During the configuration process at step 1 of 4 it said the configuration had to be manually completed.
-Windows launched, and a good number of drivers loaded.
-The New Hardware Wizard opened but the mouse would not function and allow me to make any selection.
-Automatic Updates dialog box came up and after 4 minutes restarted the virtual machine.
-Windows restarted. The New Hardware Wizard opened. I canceled.
-Installed Parallels Tools. The dialog immediately went to step 4 of 4.
-Installation Completed, everything seems to be working.
