I've downloaded Parallels build 1970 and installed it successfully. After setting up the VM, I try and do a "typical" guest os instalation of win xp sp2 but after parallels asks for me to insert the win XP cd the computer tries to read it and after 20 secs it ejects it. I've tried burning a copy of the win xp cd and the burnt copy does not get rejected by the computer. However, upon parallels trying to boot up the cd copy it is unable to read it and return an error with "non-system disk or disc error". I also made an iso image of the copy cd and it always asks for a cd anyways.

Furthermore, I tried, both the original and copy win xp sp2 cds on a PC computer and they both worked perfectly.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

To give you some background, the computer is a new macbook pro 2.16 Ghz, 1 GB ram, etc. The CD drive runs audio cds, dvd, burn cd copies, and burns cds perfectly. Any help is appreciated since I am pretty much new to macs.

    1) There are bad Microsoft produced XP CDs floating around. Try booting a real computer (or your Mac by holding "c") off that disc.
    2) Making a copy of a bad disc won't always fix it.
    3) Some XP install discs were not supposed to be bootable. Some XP home upgrade discs come to mind.

Also, this has come up quite a few times before. Please do a search to find solutions.

I did search other posts and have tried many of those suggestions to no avail. The CD works fine as I tested the original copy and the cd copy on a PC.

It seems to me that this has been a significantly large problem with Macbook Pros and Parallels. Most of the posts addressing this issue seem to be before build 1970 was released. Has Parallels figured out a solution for this?

Furthermore, any macbook pro users (bought mine about a week ago) with these problems?

I've actually tried running an image file that I created from a cd copy of the windows XP original disc. The problem I am having is that I cannot even read the original XP CD with Mac OS. I insert the CD and it spits it right out without the icon coming up on the desktop.

Can my problem be that I just dragged all the files from the original CD and pasted them into a folder in my pc to then burn a cd of that folder? I will try burning an image file on a PC of the original XP CD since the original and copy CD both run perfectly on a PC.

yes it could be. what you want is to use a program that can create a .iso file from a cd. just copying files and folders doesn't make the image or cd bootable. what cd burning software do you use for windows? nero? roxio? there should be a way to create an image from cd. either that or see if the cd you can use a friend's mac or one at work and follow the instructions in the parallels faq i gave you the link for.
